| Car & Trailer We provide training for the car and trailer test (B+E) for people who passed their car test after 1st January 1997. Any drivers who passed their test after this date are restricted to towing trailers whose gross laden weight (maximum authorised mass, or MAM) does not exceed 750Kgm. Trailers over this weight may be towed providing the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle and the combined weights do not exceed 3.5 tonne. Most caravans, horse-trailers and boats will exceed these limits and an additional test is required. This test is along similar lines to the LGV lorry test. We dont run courses to teach you to tow a trailer! We recognise that many people who need to take the test already have some experience of towing a trailer and can probably reverse it in a reasonably accurate manner. This is especially true if you have your own vehicle and trailer. We provide guidance for the test depending on your requirements we tailor our lessons to you, not you to our lessons. If you dont have your own vehicle, we have a 4x4 and trailer for your use. Again, we will provide lessons to suit you, though we would normally suggest a minimum of 2 hours per lesson in order to give you plenty of time to learn the topic of the lesson and have time to practice. Experience Drivers new to towing If you passed your test prior to 1997, you will automatically have the licence entitlement to tow larger trailers. However, if you are new to towing you may take some training to familiarise you with the way trailers behave, learn how to reverse, etc. We are happy to help. Our normal courses are run either half (£65) day or full day (£120) Our staff will be happy to advise on the requirements of this test and to advise on suitable tuition.
